Heather Newell
Heather Newell is a Full Professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She received her PhD from McGill University and works on questions at the interface between phonology and morphosyntax. Her work explores the logic of derivations from a modular point of view, aiming to determine which theoretical tools are required in phonological and morphosyntactic grammars. She had worked on a variety of topics, including stress systems, bracketing paradoxes, epenthesis and syllabification, cyclicity, prosodic domains, and the question of whether and when surface alternations should be seen as phonological or allomorphic.
