Cult N / Workshop D: Poetry in Conflict

"Poetry in Conflict" is a workshop that explores the power of poetry as a medium for resistance, remembrance, and resilience in times of turmoil. Through the works of poets such as Agha Shahid Ali, Meena Kandasamy, Juan Felipe Herrera, Mahmoud Darwish, and Iryna Shuvalova, participants will engage with verse that bears witness to displacement, oppression, and the enduring struggle for identity. The workshop will guide writers in crafting their own poems that respond to personal or collective conflicts, using language as a tool for articulation and healing. Participants are encouraged to write in their language of choice, reflecting their unique cultural and emotional landscapes, while also providing an English translation to foster shared understanding. Through guided exercises and discussions, the workshop aims to create a space where diverse voices can intertwine, celebrating poetry as a tool for solidarity and connection in periods of conflict.
